Can you imagine standing underneath and in front of these real giants?
The Jumbos can never be replaced. Not even with the 380s.
It has that special 'everything's in the right place' stuff.
The size, the variant, the track record
all speaks for itself!
And they are here to stay!

HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN OF THE SKIES

One of the world's oldest airlines, her origin can be traced back to 1910.
Now she flies to over 550 quality destinations the world over.
One of the last two who flew the Concordes,
here we feature the B777s United Kingdom,
the B757s England and the B747s South Africa.

LAST OF THE HANDSOME PROPS

Regional carrier and feeder Eurowings ranked 4th in the European section of business airlines and is 49% owned by Lufthansa AG. She now operates only jets,
namely the BAe 146s and the CRJ 200 Bombardiers.
Their last set of props, the ATR 42s and 72s ( as per the photos shown below)
were put to retirement in 2005.

Eurowings adalah bagian dari Lufthansa, merupakan maskapai regional yang beroperasi dari dan ke kota-kota kecil Eropah. Pesawat baling-baling ATR 42 dan 72 kini sudah dipensiunkan dan diganti dengan pesawat jet kecil BAe 146 dan CGJ 200 Bombardier.

WON ON GROUND, LOST IN THE AIR

Two times F1 World Champion Niki Lauda hatched this birdie in 1979, with two F27s.
Over time, Lauda the steel bird raced against and withstood all uncertanties and conditions. Grew at a fairly steady rate, at one time she even formed a strategic alliance with Lufthansa. But since 2002, she is now fully owned by Austrian Airlines.
Niki himself had given up his chairmanship and hung his hat a couple of years before that.
Here's a former B7373s.
Maskapai milik Niki Lauda sipembalap Juara Dunia F1 tahun 70an kini sudah diambil alih sepenuhnya oleh Austrian Airlines sejak 2002. Niki sendiri sudahpun melepaskan top kendalinya 2 tahun sebelum itu.

It's the Finnair 'Santa" livery on their BMD11, done a few years back.

"FIRST FLIGHT OUT TOMORROW PLEASE"

It was the worst roller-coaster ride of my life. The afternoon flight for my first sector of the Kuala Lumpur - Singapore - Jakarta route was all but a smooth one. No in-flight service was provided due to the adverse weather conditions.
The A310 circled Changi Airport in Singapore for a good 15-20 minutes and decided to return to Kuala Lumpur. ( By the way, it was still Subang and not Sepang). My knees trembled,
and as soon as it's on the tarmac, I raised my hand and let go my manly macho act,
" Excuse me miss, could you just book me on tomorrow's first flight out?"
All attempts were made to ensure that I'll arrive in Jakarta that very evening, so as I can be in the office first thing Monday morning but
" No, thank you" was my persistent answer to the poor stewardesses.
And guess what? I was not alone. I was leader to a pack of about 12 men and women who decided to stay just another evening in Kuala Lumpur.
That was sometime in the early 90s.
SQ used to fly these A310s for shuttle between KUL-SIN as well as SIN - JKT.
Of course the new bigger birds have now taken over these routes.

Karena cuaca buruk, pesawat A310 milik Singapore Airlines ini terpaksa kembali ke Kuala Lumpur. Sepanjang perjalanan pesawat ini bergetar dan turun naik melawan angin dan awan. Akhirnya sang pilot memutuskan untuk kembali ke KL. Sirna sudah kejantananku. Aku minta agar dibooking ke penerbangan pagi besoknya. Ternyata ada sekitar 12 penumpang lain yang juga minta diturunkan.
Ternyata akulah biang keroknya!

GRAND.GRIND.GROUNDED

This is one airline I never wanna see fail.
Started in 1927 flying airmails, PanAm grew by leaps and bounds but was unable to keep up with her modern competition. The A310s as featured here was the queen of the skies between mainland US and Heathrow during the mid/late 1980s.
In 1991 however she succumbed to the ground after a long fight with her financial illness. The Heathrow route was then passed on to United and Delta.
A few attempts were made since then to take her to the skies again, but to date she was still unable to really take-off.
PanAm was one of a few great early airlines that has contributed
to the art and romance of flying.
Oh my, what a pity...
Maskapai PanAm yang lahir ditahun 1927 terpaksa mendarat untuk selama-lamanya pada tahun 1991 setelah bergulat sekian lama dengan masalah finansialnya. Rute US- Heathrow yang dipegangnya terpaksa diambil-alih oleh United dan Delta. A310 diatas merupakan armada utama yang dipakai PanAm untuk jalur gemuk ini.

A HUMP ON THE CAMEL

There's a hump on the camel. That's engine number three on the BMD11 belonging to
Saudi Arabian Cargo. Products move faster around the globe these days, thanks to all
the cargo operators who see speed as a real consumer need.
Otherwise we'll have to make do with those slow boats to China.
But then, who says time can wait?

MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE JUMBO

Always my favorite of all the Jumbos, the Boeing 747SP. This one flies the South African.
It's no more in service but will remain the most reliable steel bird of all times.
This last SP type has been handed over to the SAA Museum Society for keeps.
Boeing 747SP yang gagah, model Jumbo favoritku. Di sini berpose untuk South African.
Yang pasti kini pesawat ini sudah tidak terbang lagi karena faktor usianya, juga tidak lagi ekonomis dengan adanya varian-varian baru yang lebih besar.

US AIRWAYS REFRESHED!

US Airways too has done a complete overhaul on it's livery. The full blue that you see here on their A320 has given way to a white body fuselage.
Quite a handsome sight I must say, and very American.
After merging with America West sometime back, they now boast a
4,000 plus daily departures.

Maskapai US Airways telah bergabung dengan America West beberapa waktu lalu dan kini mempunyai 4,000 lebih penerbangan per hari. Design warna pesawat juga sudah dirubah menjadi dominan warna putih yang elegan dibanding dengan warna lama mereka seperti foto di atas.

DELTA MOVES ON!


It began in 1924 as Huff Daland Dusters, an aerial crop dusting org.

Atlanta-based Delta inaugurated her first ever passenger flight on June 17, 1929.
Up until September 2006 she's got a 47,000 strong workforce and has 4 hubs in the US namely Atlanta, Cincinati, NY JFK and Salt Lake City.

Here's a B767-300 in her old livery.
The new Delta logo is shown here at the bottom. They now have also moved on with a new
up-to-date livery design. Plse check out their website for the current look.
Delta owns 24 units of the B767-300s.
Also in service are 59 of the 300ERs and 21 of the 400ERs.



Delta Airlines sekarang dipanggil Delta saja, kini dengan logo dan nuansa design yg baru; bermula pada tahun 1924 sebagai perusahaan penyembur pupuk tanaman. Ditahun 2006 karyawannya berjumlah 47,000 orang.
Dengan 4 buah hub: Atlanta, Cincinati, NY JFK dan Salt Lake City, Delta mengoperasikan 24 unit B767-300,
59 seri 300ER dan 21 seri 400 ER.

DUSTY ASIANA NO MORE!

Here now is an old Asiana colors on a B7474s. I never took a liking for this sand-dust scheme, but you should take a look at their all-new vibrant livery: a combi of red, blue, yellow and white.
Everyone took a beating from the last Asian economic crisis including South Korea and Asiana too nearly had to bite the dust.
But now they are back looking fresher, and soon in true flying colors.
I'll have the new scheme uploaded as soon as the new aircraft arrives at this terminal,
sometime in the 3rd quarter of the year.


Pesawat B747 seri 400 Asiana dari Korea dengan warna coklat aneh yang kurang menarik dan terasa kuno. Setelah krisis ekonomi Asia kemaren Asiana sudah membenahi design ini dan sekarang tampil seger dan menarik dengan kombinasi warna Merah, biru, kuning dan putih.
Sebaik saja pesawat dengan warna baru ini mendarat di terminal kami,

WHAT'S NIU AT NIUGINI...

Here's an A310s from Air Niugini ( pidgin english for PNG or Papua New Guinea) which was formed in 1973 with the help of neighboring Australia. This craft is no more in service and
has since been replaced by a B767.

On top of the B767, Air Niugini to date also flies the Dash 8, F28 and F100.
Not in a hurry, small, steady but surely...


Pesawat Airbus 310 milik Air Niugini ini kini telah diganti dengan pesawat B767 untuk penerbangan jarak jauh. Maskapai Papua New Guinea yang dibangun pada tahun 1973 ini dibantu negara tetangga Australia.
Mereka juga mengoperasikan pesawat-pesawat Dash dan Fokker.

A GHOST OF THE PAST

Can you imagine an airline as big as TWA which was started in 1930, one of a few which was responsible in crafting the art of flying and the romance of it
had to buckle-up at the end in 2001 and squat under the wings of American Airlines?
Here's a good ol' Trans World B7472s, still looking handsome, and somewhat current.
Unfortunately, it's just a picture of the past...
A whole lot of them must be in some boneyards somewhere,
if they haven't been adopted already by others.


Trans World Airlines yang mulai terbang pada 1930 akhirnya terpaksa "mendarat" buat kali terakhirnya tahun 2001 dan diadopsi oleh American Airlines.
Di sini ditampilkan B747 seri 200nya, masih keliatan gagah dan jantan.
Sayangnya ini hanyalah sebuah bayangan masa lalu...

PRETTY. EXOTIC. AIR TAHITI NUI

Pretty. And Exotic. And what a beauty?!
This is ATN's first A340s that came into service sometime during the mid to late 90s.
Aaah...As beautiful as the Tahitians themselves...

360 NORTH 180 SOUTH

"Which way are you flying Sir?"
"Going up north or way down south?"
"What's in a name?"
Northwest crossed international borders. And Southwest crossed paths with her opposite
name-sake on many domestic routes in the States.
Featured here are: A Northwest B7474s and a Southwest B7373s 'Bear'.

FLY THE MAPLE LEAF

Another one from the Americas.
This time from the neighboring maple-leaf country, Air Canada's B7474s.
Simple, clean and straight forward livery design with a single color added on to the former scheme of red and white.

SHORT AND STOUT SPs

Here's a Mandarin Airlines B747SP, the earliest, shortest and the most stout of all the 747s. In the mid-80s United flew many of these for the domestic US sectors. Now, most of them are already in retirement, with the exception of a few old dogs doing their 'last call' cargo duties.

MAGNIFICENT TIMEPIECE

At about the same time as the bluish Baci, Alitalia also carried on its B7473s fuselage to what I think is another masterpiece. This time for BVLGARI the timepiece.
I've always loved metal, and this is yet another proof that
that metallic silver can also be forever.
Diwaktu bersamaan dengan design serba biru Baci, Alitalia juga menerbangkan B7473 nya yang
bernuansa serba metalik.
